Membership FAQs

What's an Ethọ́sian?

An Ethọ́sian is what we call members of Ethọ́s Lab.

Is Ethọ́s Lab just for Black Youth?

No, it is for all youth that are interested in building an inclusive future

But why do I see so many Black youth and Black Leaders?

Black youth are under-represented in areas of S.T.E.A.M and so it is important to create environments where they feel respected, reflected and protected. We all play a role in creating greater inclusion- so join us and be a part of encouraging your peers.

My kid is not quite 12 yet, but I think this program is perfect for them - can they still apply?

We do make exceptions for kids that are passionate about STEAM who are excited about Ethos Lab. Please reach out to our Community Manager for more details and to set up an Onboarding Session so we can learn more about your future ETHOSIAN.

I don't think I can afford to come, are their bursaries or scholarships available?

Yes! We have scholarships for Black youth available through our BBABC Black Start Fund. If you are not a Black youth – reach out to our Community Manager for information on other funding options.

Program Information

What is S.T.E.A.M?

S.T.E.A.M is an acronym standing for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math

I want to just do the technical part of the workshops and not the debate…can I do that?

No. We believe in a holistic learning experience where you learn the critical thinking skills and technical skills to be able to make real systems change.

Do I have to be a member to be a part of Ethọ́s Lab?

No…BUT you miss out on a lot of great events and opportunities. You can just register here to do the workshop.

Why is debate a part of this S.T.E.A.M program? That’s weird.

Public speaking, expressing ideas and healthy disagreements are an important part of innovation. We believe all Ethosians should gain these skills along with an aptitude for critical thinking and interrogating S.T.E.A.M concepts. Remember, this isn’t your average S.T.E.A.M Program
