Building Unity Spring Break Camp!
Build a City using the world’s best game development platform, Unity. Choose between two full day camps this March Break for grades 8-12
Week 1: Monday March 18th – Friday March 22nd 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.
Week 2: Monday March 25th – Thursday March 28th 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
WHERE: Centre for Digital Media, 685 Great Northern Way, Vancouver, BC.
REGISTRATION: $500 (Financial Assistance Available)
SUPPLIES: Participants will be supplied with laptops and Virtual Reality (VR) Headsets

Building Unity. Building Cities. Building Virtual Reality.
Our Building Unity: Adventures in Virtual Reality camp will guide youth on a journey to building virtual societies that creatively solve problems related to housing sustainability in Vancouver. Using the program Unity (a 2D, 3D, VR development platform) youth will be empowered to create unity, inclusion, and harmony in their built worlds.
Led by industry experts, youth will have the chance to explore their curiosity, build their technical skills, and bring their ideas to life. This camp is perfect for youth interested in cities, architecture, community building as well as, art, creativity, and design.
Meet the Facilitators
Meehae Song has over 20 years of XR media design and delivery, teaching and mentoring experience for diverse audiences. She is a Unity Certified Instructor and Unity Professional Artist. Her current PhD research is in the fields of AI portraits, aesthetic emotion space and XR applications.
She is also an instructor at Simon Fraser University, University of British Columbia, Circuit Stream and Ethos Lab/Centre for Digital Media.
Jazz is the Program Manager at Ethos Lab, where he facilitates camps and workshops. He is has experience facilitating youth programming both in schools and within the Ethos Lab community. As a graduate from Emily Carr, Jazz particularly focuses on art and storytelling, which he brings to the Ethos Lab community.
He is a talented Artist, Ultimate Frisbee Player and Dungeon Master.
Jin He – 何錦龍 (he/they) is a queer Hakka Chinese from Guangzhou currently living, learning, and working on the unceded lands of Coast Salish peoples. Jin is an Intern Architect AIBC, a poet and homesteader working towards a holistic future between the intersections of land, language, body, food, ecosystems, urbanism, and culture. He has been the architect/community planning lead for Urbanarium teen camps and intensives since 2020 and is currently working at Gair Williamson Architects focused on urban densification and a concern for the city as a repository of cultural memory.
What You’ll Learn
Learn how to use Unity VR, Immersive & Mixed Reality Technologies
Advance interpersonal and communication skills. Through dynamic exercises, youth will practice how to present and hone communication.
Learn the art of designing by creating prototypes and embracing iterative processes (testing, feedback, and modification), a crucial skill in many industries
How to design inclusive cities
youth will learn about emerging careers in urban planning and Mixed Reality
Learn about issues impacting cities- particularly housing affordability and climate change

Freestyle Friday
Culture. Community. Good Vibes.
Freestyle Fridays is a weekly event that introduces youth to topics in STEAM through culture, community and competition in a fun and lively atmosphere. Freestyle Fridays are weekly events that fuse culture, community creativity, and problem-solving all while exploring aspects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Applied Art or Math. Youth can invite a friend and learn to embrace diversity, engage with their community, and strengthen bonds through diverse activities. It’s a holistic learning experience in just one evening.
Level: For grades 5-12
When: Every Friday starting January 12
Time: 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Where: Ethos Lab, 177 E 3rd Ave.
Drop-In: No Cost
